Lammert Building
The history
911 Washington Avenue, 1896, Eames & Young — a nine-storey furniture warehouse and showroom in red brick and terra cotta for the Lammert company, and the anchor of the Washington Avenue loft district. This street was the garment and dry-goods trade: cast-iron storefronts, heavy timber floors, freight elevators, and blocks of it left standing because nobody wanted it for forty years. It is a National Historic District now.
