Chemical Building

The history

721 Olive Street, 1896, by Henry Ives Cobb of Chicago — the most inventive elevation downtown. Cobb ran sawtooth chevron bay windows the full height of the shaft in dark red brick and brown terra cotta, so the facade folds like a pleat and throws a different shadow every hour of the day. Two more storeys were added in 1902. It is a City Landmark, converted to apartments.
