Eugene Field House

The history

634 South Broadway, birthplace of Eugene Field — the newspaperman who wrote 'Wynken, Blynken and Nod' and became the children's poet of the century. His father Roswell Field was the lawyer who took the Dred Scott case into the federal courts. This is the last house standing of Walsh's Row, twelve identical 1845 townhouses that ran the block; the other eleven were demolished in 1936.
