The history

The former whaling capital and royal seat of the Hawaiian Kingdom. The Old Lahaina Fort was built of coral block in 1832 to keep rowdy sailors in line; its restored corner and the giant 1873 banyan tree anchor Front Street. Much was lost in the 2023 wildfire.
